Mr. Željko Penava Ph.D.

assistant professor

FACULTY OF TEXTILE TECHNOLOGY

UNIVERSITY OF ZAGREB

Mr. Željko Penava was born in 1964. at Imotski, and studied and graduated in the ordinary within the Faculty of Technology in Zagreb.
Immediately after graduation enrolled in aftergraduate studies at the Faculty of Technology, University of Zagreb, Department of textile engineering.
On June,23. 1993. he defended the master thesis entitled: "Design of computer program for continuous analysis of yarn thin places", and since July, 1 the same year was elected to the position assistants in the Faculty of Textile Technology, University of Zagreb, Department of textile mechanical technology where he works on the following courses:

  • "Construction of flat textile products"
  • "Construction of fabric and weaving processes,"
  • "Fabric weaves
  • "Art textile design with computer"
  • "Art textile design"
  • "CAD-CAM in the textile mechanical technology"
  • "Design processes in textile mechanical technology."
In the same period, working as assistant to the scientific-research projects: "Improving the quality and preparation of yarn for the knitting process" - (2-14-031) and "CAD-CAM and monitoring quality in the textile-mechanical processes "- (117017) and actively participates and publishes professional and scientific papers.
In the workplace assistants in Faculty of Textile Technology employed to 30th September 2000 when the agreed termination of employment with Faculty of Textile Technology and from 1 October 2000. he switching to the manager position of the Company "PENG, Ltd.". The company deals with by applying the latest scientific and technological achievements in the development and production dobby and especially jacquard fabric, using computer technology in design and production of various types of textiles and production weaving label machines on their own construction.
During its work in the company he actively and successfully cooperates with the Croatian textile industry and textile industry of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and implemented and co-operation with several textile companies from Austria and Germany, as well as leading European factories of jacquard machines (Gross, Bonas, Stäubli).
It is necessary to specifically point out his successful collaboration with company "Kelteks" Karlovac, where he developed a complete CAD-CAM system for design and sampling all kinds of jacquard textiles from idea to realization, based on the application of the latest computer technology and sophisticated electronics in the process of weaving preparation.

Wishing to continue his teaching activities, 12 March 2001. he was chosen for the main teaching lectureship in the technical sciences in the field of textile technology, mechanical branch technology, for weaving a group of items, and is engaged in part-time teaching assistants in place of the course "Visual Design for textile with using computers. "
From 1 March 2002. he continuous with the teaching and until the 1st March 2005. he part-time work as a lecturer from the course:
"Base Structural fabric "(lectures and exercises)
with their work for the industry as well as personal contacts used for improvement of teaching students that allows visiting the most interesting industrial plants to acquire more practical knowledge for their future work.
During work in the company he does not neglect his scientific engagement, following the most recent research in which he participate too. So through companies in which he was engaged and employed he get in jobs of modernization (electronics, generation, and computer control) an important instrument in the scientific research project number 0117-012 -- "Ecological processes of previous treatment and textile care."

His confirms his scientific involvement of 19th March 2004. when successfully defend his doctoral dissertation entitled: "Investigation of physical yarn characteristics for the purpose of detection of the weakest spots" in the field technical sciences, the field of textile technology.

His research work continues to participate as an external collaborator at the project "Application of fuzzy logic in the process of dyeing and color metrics" -- (0117004).

From March,1st 2005. he is again permanently employed as assistant professor at Faculty of Textile Technology where he works today.

Along with his teaching responsibilities he is involved as a collaborator on the project "Advanced technical fabrics and processes" (117-0000000-1376), and as a manager on the project FP7-REGPOT-2008-1: Unlocking the Croatian Textile Research Potentials.

In parallel with his teaching activity he is actively engaged in research at the field of design and technology of production fabric, advancing CAD-CAM systems in mechanical technology, and 3-D weaving structure, from which he continuously publishing professional and scientific works.
